Our approach to remote learning is based on the DfE non-statutory guidance Providing remote education: guidance for schools https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/providing-remote-education-guidance-for-schools/providing-remote-education-guidance-for-schools
Attendance is essential for pupils to get the most out of their school experience, including for their attainment, wellbeing, and wider life chances.
As such, remote education should not be viewed as an equal alternative to attendance in school. We will consider it only as a last resort when the alternative would be no education.
Circumstances where it might not be possible for pupils to receive in person education fit into 2 broad categories:
School closures or restrictions on attendance, where school access for pupils is restricted
Individual cases where a pupil is unable to attend school but is able to learn
In such cases, remote education can have the benefit of allowing absent pupils to keep on track with their education and stay connected to their teachers and peers.
Each year group publishes a detailed termly curriculum letter on the school website which summarises the core knowledge and skills that children will be learning in each curriculum subject.
We also provide subscriptions to the following sites:
- Oxford Reading Buddy (https://www.oxfordreadingbuddy.com/uk) for children at Fairfield to develop both decoding and comprehension skills.
- Accelerated Reader and MyON for children at Colneis for online access to reading material and comprehension quizzes (see https://www.fairfieldandcolneis.co.uk/our-curriculum/reading-at-colneis/)
- Children in KS1 and KS2 have access to Numbots or Timestable Rockstars to support fluency in number facts (see https://www.fairfieldandcolneis.co.uk/our-curriculum/maths/)
- All children also have access to PurpleMash which is a whole curricular, online resource that supports teachers with all subject areas (https://www.2simple.com/purple-mash/)
Please see your child’s class teacher if you have not received your log in information to these sites.
In addition to these subscription sites, a wealth of additional resources are available to support home learning.

In addition, during the current National Lockdown, 3 hours of primary school programming will be available every day on CBBC.
